Overview

Sections replace what were previously called ‘Headers’ across Service Packages, Proposals, Quotes, Invoices, and Job line items. With Sections, you can control what customers see, from individual line-item details to whether a section appears at all.

How sections work?

  • When you add a section to a quote, invoice, or proposal, all line items inside it are treated as a group. Reordering a section moves every item in it together — you do not need to reorder each item individually.
  • Each section has its own configuration settings that control what your customer sees in PDFs, public links, previews, and presentation mode.
  • You can add line items directly to a section.
Note: A line item added using the generic “Add” button, rather than being added to a specific section, is placed in the last section.

Section configuration

Each section has four settings that control how it appears to the customer, in the PDFs, Public links, previews, and presentation mode. When a new section is added, it inherits the configuration of the previous section.
SettingWhat it doesDefault
Show Line ItemsDisplays individual line items to the customer within the section. On
Show Line-Item PricesShows the unit cost, markup, and price for each individual line item in a section. On
Show Section TotalDisplays the sum of the section total.Off
Hide SectionCompletely hides the section and all its items from the customer.Off
Sect Custom 1
Section configuration is preserved when a quote is created from a proposal option, when an invoice is generated from a quote or job, and when a job is created from a quote or invoice.

Key points to note on hiding a Section

  • When you hide a section, it no longer appears to the customer. The section and all its line items are excluded from PDFs, public links, and presentation mode.
  • Hidden line items still contribute to the estimated total. They are never removed from the calculation.
  • The section total and all line-item prices are hidden from the customer throughout the quote/invoice/proposal.
  • You can hide multiple sections at the same time.
Note: When you hide a section, the Price toggle in the Proposal Layout under Estimate Options is automatically disabled for that proposal. This prevents pricing inconsistencies in the totals displayed to the customer.

Section actions

  • Configure — Helps to set how line items and prices appear under sections, as mentioned above
  • Rename — Updates the section name.
  • Clone — Creates a duplicate of the section along with the line items in it.
  • Remove — Deletes the section, either alone or along with the items added to it. There are two options: Remove header only and Remove section and all items.

Moving line items between the sections:

You can move any line item out of a section or into a section.
  • Move out of Section — Removes the item from its current section and places it at the top above all sections, ungrouped.
Sect3
  • Move to Section — Lets you move a line item from a section or an ungrouped item to a preferred section.
Sect4

To move a line item

 1. Locate the line item in the Parts & Services section.
  1. Select Move out of section or Move to section from the line-item actions, depending on the item’s current position.
  2. If moving to a section, select the destination section from the list.

Important note

This update affects both native and custom quote, proposal, and invoice templates, as existing templates do not support Sections. Native Templates
If you are using native templates, you will need to create new templates to fully support Sections.
Custom Templates
If you are using custom templates, you need to update them to enable support for Sections. Please reach out to our support team at support@zuper.co for assistance.

When will you see an impact?

You will notice changes only if you configure Sections to hide:
  • Line items
  • Line item prices
  • Entire sections
If you continue using the default configuration (where section totals are hidden, but line items and prices are visible), the behavior will remain similar to Headers, and your existing templates will continue to work as expected.

  • When Show Section Total is enabled, the customer sees only the section total. Individual line items and their prices stay hidden.
Only Section Total
  • When Show Line Items, Show Line-Item Prices, and Show Section Total are all enabled, the customer sees each line item, its unit cost, markup, and price. The section total also appears below the items.
